Superior Graphite Opens a New Factory

Grand Opening of the Specialty Carbon Products Plant at Hopkinsville, Kentucky

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#EnergyMaterials–Today Superior Graphite opened its new Specialty Carbon Products Plant in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The factory, in addition to the extension of the existing warehouse, expands the company’s operations and footprint on the site where it has operated since 1977. This expansion is an important investment into the company’s second century of business and addresses the rapidly growing demand for highly consistent, low impurity materials in commercial quantities from Superior Graphite’s existing, as well as new, customers.

The new Specialty Carbon Products Plant was designed to perform high-temperature purification of specialty carbons and graphites for distributed/mobile/motive energy applications. The plant focuses on Ultra-High Purity purification using Superior Graphite’s proprietary Electro-Thermal Treatment/Purification technology, which has been significantly enhanced utilizing decades of experience, in combination with the latest information technology. In addition, the technology is also environmentally friendly. This facility is now fully operational and has created 20 new jobs.

Edward Carney, President & CEO of Superior Graphite, commented, “This is an incredibly exciting technological advancement for us and our customers to be able to provide product for their growing needs. There is a shortage of natural and synthetic graphite purification capability for the energy markets, and we are now open for (added) business.”

The grand opening ceremony featured Edward Carney; Mayor Carter Hendricks, City of Hopkinsville; and other company representatives and business leaders. The guests were taken on tours of the new plant following the ceremony and reception.
